The power of ClickBase starts with integration. As long as there have been computer users, there has been the need for an individual user to have easy access to information. As long as that information was created and stored in a single database, then that information was generally easy to access and manipulate.

But, what if some of the information was created and stored in a different database? What if the user wanted to combine that information with data stored in another type of database? Now, there is the difficulty of combining information from disparate sources -- sources with different file structures and access rules. The user has a significant challenge to access and combine the data.

As databases and database software became more diverse over time, this integration of information from different sources becomes an almost insurmountable task for the typical user. Large companies with many databases, especially legacy databases, spend enormous energy and resources to solve the problem, but usually, only facilitating user access to two or three databases. If the desired information was spread across more than that limited number, the other information were unavailable to be used with the accessible databases.

Solving this inaccessibility of information is the fundamental driver of ClickBase. With ClickBase, a user can access and combine information from any number of incompatible databases regardless of the native formats of the various data. The user merely defines the locations and formats of the data and ClickBase provides the access.

An accounting manager using the company's accounting system wants to view the correspondence between a customer and the company while concurrently viewing the order history of that customer. But, the word processing files are not accessible within the accounting system. With ClickBase the accounting data and the word processing files can be concurrently viewed.
A consolidator of telephone equipment wants to provide a customer with access to the various products available from the multiple sources represented by the consolidator. But, the various manufacturers use different database software for their inventory files. With ClickBase, all the inventory from all the suppliers is concurrently available to the customer regardless of what formats are used by the manufacturers.
The mayor of a city wants to track key indicators on a continuing basis: cash position of the city; crime statistics; building permits; status of important projects. But, all these data are stored in different and incompatible databases. ClickBase enables the mayor to see these and any other parameters concurrently on a 'dashboard' of the mayor's choosing.

ClickBase accomplishes its integration by mapping all the desired information in disparate databases, complementing that with its own store of user-created information of all conceivable types (documents, images, reports, faxes, voice files, indices of paper-based documents, emails, engineering files... virtually anything that can be stored as a file), and by providing individualized views of the aggregated information.

This information can include diagnoses, x-ray pictures, statistical reports and clinical notes... all available concurrently on the doctor's PC through an Internet portal. As noted above in the city example, ClickBase supports building a 'dashboard' for each user to monitor specific parameters in real-time and through the internet.

A major advantage of ClickBase is the possibilities it gives an OEM or Reseller to incorporate ClickBase into their deliverables. Such incorporation may give the ClickBase partner several selling arguments, e.g.:

ClickBase is part of a category of tools called Enterprise Information Integration (EII), which is part of a broader computing domain called Business Intelligence. All the big database providers (Oracle, Microsoft, and Sybase) provide some form of information integration. Specialized tools are also available. All these tools perform some of ClickBase's functions, but none perform them all, and they are considerably more expensive and more difficult to use.

Most Information Integration tools actually copy or move the information from the various sources into a single, new database. ClickBase does not create a new database. Instead, it creates a table of items which define the location of each data element, the format in which it is stored, and how it is related to other elements. The ClickBase database is based on Oracle and can access all the popular legacy databases that support the ODBC standard (e.g. Oracle, SQL, Access, Sybase, Paradox, Informix, dBase, etc.).

All end-users of ClickBase will be required to have a maintenance support agreement. The OEMs or the resellers will be the initial line of customer support. ClickBase will provide back-up support to the OEMs and resellers. As part of the relationship, some initial training and installation support and continued product bug support will be provided at no-charge. Advanced support will be contracted with the OEM or reseller on a fee basis.
